The New York State Senate has given final approval to legislation creating 25 new family court judgeships.

One new judgeship would be established in each of 16 counties, including Oneida County and in New York City.

A new family court judge would be elected in Oneida County this year and take office on January 1st.

This would be the first major increase in the number of family court judges in New York in more than three decades.

The bill has been sent to the Assembly.
