WASHINGTON (AP) — The Senate Foreign Relations Committee is holding the opening round of Capitol Hill's showdown with the White House over talks to prevent Iran from being able to develop a nuclear weapon.

The committee is holding a hearing on Wednesday about the negotiations with Tehran and the role of Congress.

The committee chairman, Tennessee Republican Sen. Bob Corker, says he wants to see legislation passed to allow Congress to take an up-or-down vote on any deal the Obama administration reaches with Iran.

Tony Blinken, deputy secretary of state, and David Cohen, a top sanctions official at the Treasury Department, are expected to testify.

Next week, the Senate banking panel meets to discuss a bill that would ramp up sanctions on Iran if no deal is reached by July.
