The state Senate has one again passed legislation to legalize mixed martial arts in New York.

The bill, which was sponsored by Senator Joseph Griffo,  includes a number of provisions regarding the health, safety and financial welfare of the participants.

Although the Assembly has failed to vote on versions of the bill since 2010, this time Griffo is hopeful and urging his colleagues in the Assembly to finally legalize mixed martial arts fighting.

Griffo says a 2013 study found legalizing professional MMA fighting in New York could provide an economic boost of $135 million each year.
