(WIBX) - New York Senator Chuck Schumer wants to make sure your private information stays private. Schumer is calling for an investigation after the "New York Times" reported that cell phone applications are stealing your information and posting it online.

Schumer is calling for the Federal Trade Commission to conduct an investigation after the "Times" reported that iPhone and Android applications are allowed to steal private photos and address books. He wants to know if that is an unfair or deceptive trade practice.

In his letter to the FTC Senator Schumer said, "These uses go well beyond what a reasonable user understands himself to be consenting to when he allows an app to access data on the phone for purposes of the app's functionality." He wants the FTC to look into reports of apps stealing private information.
