Utica, NY (WIBX) - New York Senator Charles Schumer is looking to crack down on the recent rash of scrap metal and copper theft in the Utica area.

Schumer was joined by local law enforcement and other officials at the Utica Department of Public Works Garage yesterday.

The senator is proposing legislation that would require metal sellers to provide provide proof of ownership and limit cash payments for scrap metal to $100.
