ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) — Attorneys for a man convicted of killing his high school sweetheart, and whose story is at the center of the popular podcast "Serial," will argue that he deserves a new trial after his conviction was vacated.

Prosecutors and lawyers for Adnan Syed will present arguments Thursday before a Maryland appeals court.

Syed was convicted of murder in the killing of Hae Min Lee, whose body was buried in a shallow grave in a park in northwest Baltimore.

Last year, a judge vacated Syed's conviction and ruled that he deserved a new trial because the earlier attorney failed to cross-examine the state's cell tower expert about the reliability of location data that placed Syed near the burial site.
