UPDATED STORY:

Utica Police are still investigating a serious accident involving a car and a pedestrian that occurred on State Route 12 in Utica last night.

Earlier reports that the accident was fatal were not correct.  Although the accident did involve serious injuries, the victim was transported to a hospital in Albany for treatment.

Both lanes were closed for several hours overnight after someone walking along the "arterial" was killed after being hit by a car.

The New York State Department of Transportation immediately shut down the southbound lane and then both lanes of traffic while Utica Police worked to reconstruct the scene.  Police still have not yet released details regarding the accident, including the victim's name.

Original Story:

Authorities say that Route 12 will be closed in both directions near Noyes Street for the next few hours.  Drivers are advised to use alternate routes for the time being.

This is a developing story and we will provide you with more information as soon as it is available.
