The Madison County Sheriff's Office is investigating a serious accident that happened this morning on Harsh Road in the Town of Sullivan.

Deputies say a woman lost control of her vehicle on the slippery road, left the road and overturned into the Erie Canal.

Members of the Chittenango, North Chittenango and Bridgeport Fire Departments extricated the woman from the vehicle.

She was taken to a Syracuse hospital, where she's in serious condition.

More information will be released later this morning.

Update; 3;33- An Oneida woman was injured this morning when she lost control of her SUV on Harsh Road in the Madison County Town of Sullivan.

The Madison County Sheriff's Office says 48-year old Colleen Hyland tried to avoid a vehicle in the road that had collided with a guardrail just moments before

Hyland's vehicle left the road and overturned into the Erie Canal, coming to rest on its roof in about three feet of water.

Members of the Chittenango, North Chittenango and Bridgeport Fire Departments pulled Hyland from the vehicle.

Hyland was taken to a Syracuse hospital, where she's in serious condition.

Deputies say Hyland was on her to work at the Chittenango Middle School, where's she's a 7th grade teacher.

The driver involved in the frist accident was not injured.
