UPDATE 10:34 am. 2/19/16- Rome Police have identified the 7-year old boy who was killed in yesterday's fire on 501 Turin Street.

Police say Ryan St. Andrew was located on the second-floor of the house by Rome firefighters and taken to Rome Hospoital, where he died.

They say Ryan's grandfather, 66-year old Thomas Gazitano, made two attempts to locate Ryan, but was driven from the house by smoke and flames. He was treated for burns at the hospital and released.

Gazitano was able to remove a sleeping 3-year old boy from the house.  Christopher Fairchild, who is St. Andrews' cousin, was not injured.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

St. Andrew was a second grade student at Ridge Mills Elementary School in Rome.

Although Rome schools are not in session this week due to the mid-winter break, Rome City School District officials will have grief counselors available for students and their families.

Original story:

Rome firefighters were able to remove the boy from the burning house and take him to Rome Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Police are not releasing the boy's name until extended family members are notified.

Rome Police and Rome Fire Department investigators will be conducting an investigation into the cause of the fire.

Additional information will be released following the investigation.
