Albany, NY (WIBX) - Senator Jim Seward is speaking out against the State Department of Motor Vehicle's decision to eliminate vision test requirements for drivers renewing their licenses.Seward says the DMV's plan is short-sighted and reckless.

He says allowing motorists to get behind the wheel with even a hint of question regarding their eyesight is irresponsible.

Instead of taking an eye test at a DMV office, drivers now only need to "self certify" that their vision meets state standards.

County clerks across the state are strongly opposed to the change as well.

Oneida County Clerk Sandy DePerno says the DMV has decided the safety of our drivers is no longer a priority.

DePerno says they're also robbing local DMV offices of millions of dollars that would have stayed right here in central New York.
