Utica, NY (WIBX) - With the looming closure of seven state prisons, State Senator James Seward is demanding Governor Andrew Andrew Cuomo protect the employees about to lose their jobs. "Let's face it, we have hundreds of employees right in our own area and their families who are dealing with life altering decisions as a result of a governor's prison closures and it seems to me that the very least that the state can provide is an ample transition time for these very dedicated workers," Seward said.

Cuomo included a 60-day transitional period in his prison closure agenda, to give affected employees time to file the necessary transfer paperwork. However, Seward is pushing for a 90-day time table. He says some employees have to make life changing decisions such as selling their homes and relocating and state officials should be sensitive to their needs.
