Seward And Butler Join Call For More State Highway Funding [VIDEO]

Senator James Seward is joining a bipartisan group of state legislators and county and town highway superintendents, calling for increased state funding for local highway improvements.

Seward and his senate and assembly colleagues are calling for a $250 million increase in Consolidated Highway Improvement Program or CHIPs funding in the new state budget.

They also want to create a four-year, $600 million State Aid to Local Bridge and Culvert Program.

Local roads and bridges account for 87 percent of the roads, 52 percent of the bridges, and 48 percent of the vehicle mileage logged in New York State.

Seward says the proposals will be included in the senate's one-house budget which will be acted on next week.
