The Oneida County Sheriff's Office is asking some residents in the Oriskany and surrounding Whitestown area to "shelter in place" while law enforcement deals with a situation in the area.

UPDATED 3:50 p.m.- The shelter in place advisory has been lifted.  The man police were looking for was taken into custody on Utica Street in Oriskany just before 3:30.

The man is white, about six feet tall wearing a red sweatshirt and dark colored sweatpants.

Residents in the area are asked to remain in their homes and to immediately call 911 if anyone matching the description is seen.
