Overtime paid to state employees cost taxpayers about $529 million last year.

In a written statement the New York State Comptroller, Thomas DiNapoli, says, "New York State policy requires limiting overtime to a minimum, and I urge all agencies to ensure that this expense is reduced whenever possible.”
