A female student at a Catholic high school was sent home from her school's prom because she showed up in a men's suit for the occasion.

The student, who says that she is gay, does not feel comfortable wearing a dress.  Weeks prior to the event the school had sent notices to students' homes stating that girls were required to wear dresses and boys were required to wear suits to the prom.  The girl's mother acknowledged receiving the note, but did not think anything of allowing her daughter to wear a suit.

Do you believe that specific dress codes should be in force for students attending special events?  Or should there be leeway provided that the attire is tasteful?
