Albany, NY (WIBX) - State leaders, including Governor Andrew Cuomo, are calling for an investigation into the Assembly's handling of sexual harassment claims against one of its members.

Speaker Sheldon Silver reportedly authorized a confidential settlement payment of more than $100,000 in taxpayer money to cover up sexual harassment claims made by staffers against Assemblyman Vito Lopez.

Silver, one of the legislature's most powerful Democrats, has taken full responsibility for approving the deal.

He says in the future he'll insist such cases go to the ethics committee while also protecting the identity of the victims.
