SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) — Authorities are confirming that six people killed in a house fire in New York were all members of the same family.

Syracuse Fire Department officials tell local media that the blaze was reported around 3:50 a.m. Friday at a home on the city's north side.

Officials say firefighters were attempting to enter the front of the burning two-story home when the porch roof collapsed, forcing them to retreat. The flames were put out about 30 minutes later.

When firefighters entered the home, they found two bodies downstairs and four others upstairs. Syracuse Fire Chief Paul Linnertz told Time Warner Cable News that all six victims were related.

A seventh person was able to escape and has been taken to a hospital.

No other information has been released.

The cause of the fire is being investigated.
