Skeletal Remains Uncovered In What Was Likely A Cemetery

EASTON, N.Y. (AP) — Authorities say human skeletal remains uncovered in a rural town along the upper Hudson River are likely from a long-forgotten cemetery.

The Post-Star of Glens Falls reports a person digging on property in the town of Easton unearthed the bones the last Friday and called police.

Deputies say they believe the remains of 10 or more people had been located in what appeared to be an old cemetery on what used to be farm land.

Officials say the remains likely dated back a century or more. Old metal nails were found at the burial site, indicating the deceases were buried in caskets that disintegrated long ago.

An archaeologist has been called in to examine the bones to try to determine their age.
