Susquehanna County is rolling out a new 911 service that allows residents and visitors to the county to provide information about themselves and their family prior to an emergency.

Smart911 is a private and secure profile that will automatically display to emergency services when a 911 call is made.

Officials say many people think when they call for help from their cell phone, authorities will know where they are and whether there are medical or other issues that need to be considered.

The new system allows emergency responders better knowledge about what they are dealing with.

Residents can go to www.smart911.com to create their free safety profile.
