Westmoreland, NY (WIBX) - A Vernon man had to be rescued on Saturday night after his snowmobile fell into the water off a trail that connects Lowell and Eureka Roads in Westmoreland.

Oneida County Sheriff's Deputies say 24-year old Derick Ball was operating his snowmobile
across a swampy area about 100 yards from the trail when the sled broke through the ice.

Ball used his cellphone to call 9-1-1.

Members of the Oriskany Fire Department's Technical Rescue Team pulled Ball from the frigid
water.

Deputies say Ball was in the water for about an hour.

He was treated at the scene for exposure and then taken to St.Elizabeth Medical Center.

The investigation continues and deputies say tickets are likely.
