The New York State Legislature is considering the installation of cameras on certain streets in the state, particularly those near schools.

The pilot program would start in New York City.

Cameras would detect speeding and automatically issue tickets electronically to motorists who were not obeying traffic laws.

State Senator Jeffrey Klein, leader of the Independent Democratic Conference, is sponsoring the bill.
