Tax day is also the beginning of green waste pickup in Utica.

The City of Utica's Department of Public Works will officially begin picking up yard waste on Wednesday, April 15, 2015.

Green waste, grass, brush, and dirt placed curbside will be picked up through Friday, May 15, 2015.  Green waste must not be mixed with other items not suitable for composting. Stones, paper, plastic, and metal items should not be mixed in with green waste.

Stone, concrete, brick pieces, and dirt mixed with other items are limited to one container per week that does not weigh more than fifty pounds.

Branches should not be more than four feet long.  Piles of branches should be separate from piles of leaves.  Tree branches may be bundled (i.e. tied with string or twine).  Each bundle cannot be heavier than fifty pounds.  No more than five bundles can be put out each week.

Green waste may be put outside in an open container that is not larger than thirty gallons on the night of regularly-scheduled garbage pickup.  For more information visit the City of Utica's website.

Larger quantities of green waste or stone may be picked up by a private landscaping service or dropped off at the Oneida-Herkimer Solid Waste Authority (OHSWA).  For details from the OHSWA call: (315) 731.0238 or visit their website at: www.ohswa.org.
