Utica, NY (WIBX) - Thanks to a generous donation from Northern Safety & Industrial Company, the cats at the Stevens-Swan Humane Society have a brand new home. The Stevens-Swan Humane Society celebrated the completion of the major construction upgrade today with a ribbon cutting ceremony. The cats who call the Society home as they wait to be adopted, no longer have to wait in cages according to spokesperson Jerry Kraus.

Kraus said, "No more cages! The cats are out roaming free. It helps them socialize more and when people come to visit the cats they can sit down on nice park-like benches inside our cat rooms and visit with the cats individually and together with all of them in the room." He says the four legged tenants are waiting for a forever home and added, "Come on out and find your new best friend, adopt, don't shop at the Stevens-Swan Humane Society."

Owner and CEO of Northern Saftey Co., Salvatore Longo says he decided to give the cats a new home after touring the facility in February and realizing the need for the project. "The cats needed a nice home for them to easily be adopted, and where people can see them in their natural environment and get the right pet, something that they will enjoy for hopefully a long time and be a part of their families. We felt that it was a good cause that needed to be funded and we're just happy to be in a position that we're able to do that," Longo said.
