Standoff In New Hartford

Oriskany, NY (WIBX) - The Oneida County Sheriff's Office is holding a man in custody after he allegedly threatened to blow up his home using natural gas.

29-Year old Justin Wadsworth of 27 Cascade Road in New Hartford called 911several times, threatening himself and law enforcement officials. After saying that he was going to detonate the house, Oneida County Sheriff Rob Maciol said the law enforcement officers quickly acted to make certain that neighbors were safe.  About seven or eight homes in the area were evacuated in the early morning hours.

In addition to New Hartford Police, the Sheriffs, Emergency Responders, negotiators, and the Forensics Unit were all on the scene.

Following a stand-off with police of just about four hours, Wadsworth was taken into custody.

Charges are pending an evaluation of the suspect.
