Attention ‘Star Wars‘ fans! Before you get your tent and sleeping bag and lawn chair and start waiting on line for ‘Star Wars: Episode 7‘ you should probably know this: ‘Star Wars: Episode 7′ might not come out in 2015 as originally planned.

When ‘Star Wars: Episode 7′ was originally announced, it came along with a 2015 release date. This seemed unusual for a movie that – at the time – didn’t have a writer, director or any cast attached to the film. Was a 2015 release date a little too ambitious?

It turns out it might have been. The Hollywood Reporter says that as part of his contract, director J.J. Abrams did not agree to a 2015 release date and that production of ‘Star Wars: Episode 7′ could be pushed back if Abrams makes that request.

Considering that Abrams a) still needs to finish post-production on ‘Star Trek Into Darkness;’ b) will reportedly still produce ‘Star Trek 3‘ and c) has a million other projects in the works, we’re going to guess that 2015 probably won’t happen. We went back and looked and Abrams began developing ‘Star Trek’ in 2005, four years before the film would hit theaters. That’s a lengthy development window and if we followed that math, it would put ‘Star Wars: Episode 7′ in theaters in 2017. Disney would like that to not happen, so we’ll split the difference and guess that ‘Star Wars: Episode 7′ will actually hit theaters in the summer of 2016.

But let’s just imagine for a second if ‘Star Wars: Episode 7′ actually did open in 2015. That would mean ‘Avengers 2,’ ‘Justice League,’ ‘Fantastic Four,’ ‘Ant-Man’ and ‘Star Wars’ would all be released in the same year. Geekiest movie year ever?
