The New York State Department of Labor today released preliminary local unemployment rates for June 2013. This year unemployment rates for the Utica-Rome area fell to 7.6% for June 2013, down a full percent from last June's 8.6%.

The state's unemployment rate is is calculated in part by a telephone survey of 3,100 households out of more than seven million throughout New York State.

The State's private sector job count increased by more than 110,000 from June 2012 to June 2013.

The overall state unemployment rate is at 7.5%, which is on par with the National rate of 7.6%.
