State Police Investigate Apparent Drowning In Schuyler

State Police are investigating an apparent drowning in Herkimer County.

Police say 26-year old George Grullon of Utica jumped into the Erie Canal at Lock 19 in Schuyler to save his girlfriend's cousin, who had jumped into the water to save a dog.

As emergency responders arrived, they attempted to locate Grullon in the water, but he did not resurface.

Grullon's body was found late last night in six feet of water about 10 feet away from where he was last seen.

The dog was located and pulled to safety.

The investigation is continuing.
