State Police Investigate Fatal Jefferson County Residential Fire

A man is dead following a house fire in the Jefferson County Town of Alexandria, NY.

State Police say they responded to the fire at around 6:30 a.m. Upon arrival, fire personnel from Plessis, Alexandria and Redwood Fire Departments observed the entire structure engulfed in flames.

A neighbor of the resident claimed that the single occupant of the home was unaccounted for. During fire suppression efforts the body of 65-year-old Carl Lawton was found inside the hallway of the home by fire fighters.

The cause of the fire was investigated by several agencies and the cause was found to be a small space heater being placed to close to combustible materials. Multiple agencies were involved in the investigation.
