State Police Investigate Jefferson County Homicide

Cape Vincent, NY (WIBX) - State Police are investigating a homicide that happened in Jefferson County.

Police say 20-year old Mikel Odle of Alexandria Bay stabbed 51-year old Mary Burkman and 21-year old Amber Englebert just before midnight on Sunday in Burkman's Cape Vincent home.

Troopers say Odle then fled the home with an 11-month old infant who he had with Englebert.

Odle's vehicle was spotted a short time later on Route 12-E in Chaumont.

He crashed his vehicle after a brief pursuit and was taken into custody.

Odle is facing charges of second-degree murder and attempted murder.

Police say additional charges are pending.

Burkman was killed in the attack, while Engelbert is being treated at Samaritan Hospital in Watertown.
