Albany, NY (WIBX) - You might want to lighten up on the gas pedal.

State Police will out in full force this week during a traffic enforcement campaign called "Speed Week."

Troopers will be stepping up patrols on major highways, looking for speeders.

They'll also be on the lookout for impaired drivers, vehicle occupants who are not wearing their seatbelts and other traffic violators.

Speed remains the leading cause of fatalities on New York highways.

Officials say it's a contributing factor in about one-third of all fatal crashes annually.
