One week into tax season more than 1.3 million New York taxpayers have used e-file to file their state tax returns.

That's according to testimony from State Commissioner of Taxation and Finance Thomas mattox.

Mattox says in comparison, the department has only received 8,000 paper income tax returns this year.

All income tax forms are now accepted electronically allowing taxpayers to use the more accurate system.

Mattox added that paper returns are 20% more likely to have errors than e-filed returns and have the advantage of not needing to use certified mail.
