The Dow Jones Industrials and S&P 500 reached two major milestones today.

There were firsts for both the Dow and the S&P 500; the Dow reached 16,000 and the S&P 500 hit 1,800.

The day also marked a time for protest as supporters of the Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender (LGBT) community protested trading with Russian-oriented companies outside the New York Stock Exchange.  Russia passed anti-LGBT legislation over the summer, including laws that make support of LGBT rights illegal.

The S&P 500 fell six points to close at 1,791. The Dow edged up 14 points, to 15,976. The Nasdaq composite gave up 37 points, to 3,949.
