More than 39,000 workers walked off the job on April 13. The strike affects Verizon employees in New York, Pennsylvania and several other states.

The striking employees are represented by the Communications Workers of America and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. They had continued to work without a contract since last August.

Union officials say a rally is planned for next Monday (April 25) in front of the Verizon building on Henry Street.

Local elected officials and others are expected to speak at the event. Striking workers and supporters from other area unions are planning to attend the rally.

Union representatives say job security is one of the key issues in the contract dispute. They say no new talks are scheduled.

Verizon has been using non-union replacement workers to respond to service calls since the strike started.
