A Rome Free Academy student isn't happy with the lunches being served at school and he's speaking out. "This is what the school district tries to pass off as food to the kids and staff. Today at my table alone 2 kids didn't eat their food because it didn't look edible," Mike D'Amore wrote on Facebook.

Inedible lunches are pretty common. D'Amore says "there's multiple days I see kids throwing out their food."

Last May another parent complained about the lunches served to their child. Tania Premo’s says "this is what kids in most schools are being fed. No excuses-this should not be allowed in any school!”

Chris Whitmore, RFA Food Service Director released a statement after the turkey complaint :

It is our highest priority to make sure we serve the best meals we can to all of our students. We are very sorry this happened and we want to make sure your children, our customers, have every right and encouraged to receive another meal option or a new one. The food service staff has and will continue to be accommodating to all students and staff.

Our mission is to provide every student the opportunity to pick and choose from a wide range of healthy, delicious, and nutritious meals in a friendly and educational atmosphere; each and every day. Keeping our kids safe and healthy is our number one priority.

D'Amore isn't blaming the school or even the cafeteria workers. He says the blame lies with the politicians. "It's not the cafeteria people who are the problem. They are doing their job. The problem is in Albany. The schools are given regulation and guidelines that tell them the food they have to serve. Their hands are tied."

D'Amore even tried to get Tonys pizza in the school and was told it wasn't allowed. "Outside food isn't allowed to be sold in the school because it doesn't pass regulations." D'Amore hopes those regulations can be changed. "I want to make sure this gets to Albany and have the regulations removed or lessened. We're trying to help local businesses, the school and the kids and we're even trying to give some of our profits to veterans in a project here in Rome."

"Maybe we'll have a hamburger sent to Governor Cuomo," jokes D'Amore.
