Supporters Save West Rome Drive-In

Rome, NY (WIBX) - The West Rome Drive-In, which has been showing outdoor movies since the summer of 1951, may be getting a new lease on life, that according to Vice President and General Manager, Doug Davidson, of Davidson Auto Group.

The auto group is currently negotiating to buy the land the drive-in occupies from current owner, Zurich Cinema Corporation.

 Sighting an overwhelming ground swell of drive-in support, Davidson says that the auto group will now plan to incorporate the outdoor cinema into their proposal to build a brand new GM dealership facility on the 14 acres the outdoor cinema occupies. "We're going to include the dealership and the drive-in on that property", Davidson said, adding that "People seem to have strong feeling about that drive-in, so what we decided to do was keep it".

Zurich Cinema Corporation has owned the West Rome Drive-In for the past 30 years and according to company president Conrad Zurich, it continues to steadily draw patrons. The plan will require municipality approval.
