Verona, NY (WIBX) - A bumper crop of algae in Oneida Lake has forced closure of Sylvan and Verona beaches to swimmers.

Lifeguards report visibility in water near the beaches is about zero.

The Oneida County Health Department says samples are being checked to see if  the algae is toxic.

Meanwhile, both beaches are still open for sunbathing.
