A Syracuse man is now facing multiple felony charges, including manslaughter and DWI, after a fatal crash at Destiny USA on Sunday night.

Syracuse Police have arrested 38-year old Leonard Glowacki of Columbus Avenue in Syracuse after they say that he hit a car while he was driving his 2002 Chevy Silverado westbound on Hiawatha Boulevard West at approximately 9:29pm on January 18, 2015.

The vehicle that was hit was a 2002 Toyota Camry driven by 19-year old Kane Buss on Oneida, New York.  Buss was exiting Destiny USA across from Solar Street at the time.  Police say the two vehicles collided at the intersection and then hit a 2003 Kia Sedona, the driver of which was trying to turn left to head west on Hiawatha Boulevard West.

Buss and his passenger, 18-year-old Amanda Pawlikowski of Vernon, New York, were both brought to Upstate University Medical Center.  Buss was later pronounced dead as a result of injuries sustained in the crash.  As of this posting, Pawlikowski was listed in serious condition.

The driver of the Kia Sedona hit at the intersection was 60-year old David Smolnycki from Syracuse.  He and his passenger, 65-year-old Dawn Smolnycki, were treated for injuries described as minor.  Dawn Smolnyski was briefly hospitalized at Crouse Hospital after suffering from chest pain.

Glowacki, the driver of the truck charged with initiating the accident, was hospitalized and released.  He is now facing the following charges:

  • Vehicular Manslaughter (first degree, a felony)
  • Vehicular Assault (first degree)
  • Driving While Intoxicated
  • Aggravated Unlicensed Operation (first degree)
  • Reckless Operation (misdemeanor)
  • several vehicle and traffic violations

Glowacki was arraigned on the charges in Syracuse City Criminal Court on January 19, 2015.  He is being held at the Onondaga County Justice Center.
