SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) — Syracuse officials have approved spending for new LED streetlights.

WSTM-TV reports the Common Council unanimously approved borrowing $38 million for the overhaul. Officials say $15 million will go towards new LED lights while the remaining funds will be used for repairs and other services.

Officials say the LED lights will help Syracuse save about $3 million annually. They say the lights will also reduce greenhouse gases.

Mayor Ben Walsh says the project is a "very good investment for the taxpayers of the city of Syracuse."
