A school known by many for its orange-themed sports teams may soon be grabbing some red, white, and blue headlines as well.

Syracuse University Professor Eric Kingson says he will run as a Democrat for the 24th District Congressional District seat currently held by incumbent first-term Republican John Katko.

Kingson has been a professor of social work at SU's Falk College of Sport and Human Dynamics for the past seventeen years.

According to his biography on the college's website, Kingson, a graduate of Boston University, received his Master's degree from Northeastern University and his doctorate from Brandeis.

As to why he is running, a statement on his campaign site, erickingson.com, reads as follows:

"Eric is running because he shares the anger and disappointment of many Central New Yorkers who see themselves working longer and harder, but not getting ahead and, for many, actually falling behind."

He is a founding co-director of the Social Security Works and was a presidential policy advisor on aging-related issues in 1982-1983 and 1994-1995.
