When the line-up of beers for Utica onTap craft beer festival was announced, I was excited to see two breweries from my home state of Michigan on the tasting schedule. Learn more about Bell's from Kalamazoo and Founders from Grand Rapids.

The Southern Tier Brewing Company will have two beers featured at "Utica On Tap," March 22nd at the Stanley Theatre from 12-3. With unlimited sampling at one great price, you won't want to pass up the two brews Southern Tier has to offer.

During our vacation in Cape Cod last September, my wife and I searched out some new destinations. Of course, I found a brewery! As a former tour guide during my college days at the F.X. Matt Brewery, I appreciate other breweries (and brewery tour guides) and discovered Cape Cod Brewery in Hyannis, Cape Cod Massachusetts.

We hope to see you at "Utica On Tap", the largest craft beer event in Utica on Saturday, March 22nd at the Stanley Theater. Over 60 craft beers to sample (for the 21 and over crowd with valid ID), including two brews from the Brooklyn Brewery.

You know that Utica is home to the F.X. Matt Brewing Company, but you may not know the number of breweries that existed in this area during the 19th and 20th centuries. With good water and nearby hop farms in the Waterville area, Utica had the right stuff to be in the beer business.

During the 1800s and early 1900s, the Town Of Sangerfield and specifically Waterville were considered one of the major hop-growing regions in the country. Due to that fact, a number of local breweries were located in the nearby Utica area.
