Remsen's Erin Hamlin is within striking distance of a medal after the first day of competition in the Women's Luge at the Pyeongchang games in South Korea.
Local Olympic Luger and bronze medalist Erin Hamlin of Remsen earned the right to carry the American flag on Friday during the opening ceremony at the Pyeongchang Winter Olympic games. Hamlin was all smiles as she led the U.S. Olympic contingency to open the winter games, leading the largest group to ever represent the United States at the Olympics since the winter games began in 1924. Following the Winter Olympic Games in South Korea next year, Erin Hamlin will retire from the sport of Luge. The Remsen native made the announcement in Germany on Sunday after she qualified for her 4th Olympic USA Luge team.
