The merger between Ilion and Mohawk has passed in both school districts.

Proponents of both sides are still trying to get in the last word before voters reach the ballot box.

Polls are open from noon until 8:00pm today.  Residents of Ilion and Mohawk will vote on whether to merge their school districts.

Dr. Rick Timbs is executive director of the Statewide School Finance Consortium and an expert on school funding and mergers. He has periodically joined WIBX First News with Keeler in the Morning to discuss the upcoming merger vote for the Ilion and Mohawk school districts.

The proposed Ilion-Mohawk school merger is generating much discussion.  A vote is scheduled next week, February 12, 2013 on the issue.  Many of those most closely involved in the debate joined WIBX First News with Keeler in the Morning to participate in a forum.

Herkimer, NY (WIBX) - Voting took place right up to the wire and came down to about two hundred votes.  In the end Ilion and Mohawk voted to merge their school districts and Herkimer voted to reject it.
