HOUSTON (AP) — Hillary Clinton hasn't gambled much on Texas but opinion polls have some Republicans anxious anyway.

No Democratic presidential candidate has won Texas since Jimmy Carter in 1976. With less than two weeks until Election Day, Clinton isn't campaigning in Texas or pouring millions of dollars into television ads.

But narrowing polls show Texas being closer than usual just four years after President Barack Obama lost the state by 16 percentage points. Trump remains favored to win the Lone Star State, but Texas Gov. Greg Abbott told supporters this week that Clinton was giving them a test.

Democrats haven't even won a statewide office in Texas since 1994.

Clinton has put more effort into a possible upset in another Republican stronghold, Arizona, where she has spent $2 million on television ads.
