A tattoo artist has found himself in the doghouse among some animal rights activists.

Mistah Metro, a tattoo artist in Brooklyn, has raised eyebrows and incited a furor online after he posted photos on Instagram of his dog that he tattooed . The photos have since been taken down.

Mistah Metro proudly boasted on his post:

One of the many reasons my dog is cooler than your[s]! She had her spleen removed today and the vet let me tattoo her while she was under.”

The ink in question features the pooch with a heart with an arrow cutting through it along the right shoulder, along with the names ‘Alex’ and ‘Mel.’

The ASPCA condones the use of tattooing for only identification purposes following spay or neuter surgery....Tattooing an animal for the vain sake of joy and entertainment of the owner -- without any regard for the well-being of the animal -- is not at all comparable to the incident in question and is not something the ASPCA supports.

Mistah Metro continues to remain mum on the matter, while the owner of Red Legged Devil, the tattoo shop where he works (and featured on TLC's 'NY Ink'), had something to say. "The dog wasn’t tattooed at the shop -- what [employees] do on their own time isn't my business," he said, "People are still offered jobs after being pedophiles. I don’t know why everyone is treating this kid like he raped a 12-year-old."
