Tax Deadline Nears

New York, NY (WIBX) – If you’re one of the 140-million American filing an individual income tax return this year, good news, not only will you have a couple extra days to file your return, but the IRS has a program that will help you not only do your taxes, but file them electronically too.
It’s called “Free File” and you can use this free software to complete your taxes and e-file them for free If you make $57,000 or less a year, just just go to irsfreefile.gov to access the filing tool.
IRS New York spokesperson Diane Besunder says almost 80% of the people who filed tax returns last year filed them electronically.
Federal income tax returns are due April 17th.
If you can’t meet the deadline, the IRS urges you to file an extension. For more information on Freefile visit: www.irs.gov/freefile.
