Canastota, NY (WIBX) - State Police say a 17-year old Madison County teen was shot and killed by two police officers following a false report of a carjacking.

Troopers say someone called 9-1-1 yesterday afternoon to report a car jacking in the parking lot of a Tops Market.

A Canastota Police officer spotted the vehicle at the intersection of Peterboro Street and Route 5 in Canastota.

The driver refused to stop and police pursued the vehicle for about four miles until the car eventually stopped in the Town of Sullivan.

Authorities say that's when the driver got out of the vehicle and pointed a gun at officers.

Police fired at least nine shots at the suspect and it appears that he was hit four times.

Investigators say all indications reveal that the officers, Canastota Police Chief James Zogby and officer Sean Barten, performed their job properly

The investigation has revealed that there is no evidence of a carjacking and that the vehicle was owned by a family member of the deceased teen.

Police have not yet released the name of the victim.

The investigation into the incident is continuing.
