BATH, N.Y. (AP) — Authorities say a 16-year-old girl has died from injuries suffered when she was hit by a vehicle while walking on a Southern Tier road.

The Steuben County Sheriff's Office says Schulyer Hyer of Bath was walking along the side of state Route 415 late Sunday night when she was hit just outside the village.

When deputies arrived on the scene, they found here unresponsive in the yard of a home. The vehicle's driver had remained at the scene.

Hyer was taken to the Bath hospital, then airlifted to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester. Deputies say she died at the hospital Monday.

The 38-year-old Corning man who was driving the vehicle hasn't been charged. Police say their investigation is continuing.
