Verona, NY (WIBX) - A teen driver is being blamed for causing an accident that ejected a passanger from his vehicle.

According to the New York State Police, 17-year old Cody Domena lost control of the SUV he was driving while passing another vehicle near V-V-S High School in the Town of Verona.

Investigators say the teen lost control, went off the road and severed a utility pole in half. In total, 8 people were transported to local hospitals for injuries sustained in the accident.

State Route 31 was closed for several hours while National Grid removed power lines from the roadway. State Police say unsafe speed and driver inexperience appear to be the primary causes of the accident as the driver only possessed a learners permit. The investigation is continuing.
