A ten-year old may be a little too eager to get behind the wheel.

Troopers responded to reports that a bucket truck and a plow truck had been driven off the road into a ditch off of Blow Road in the Franklin County town of Bellmont, New York.

Both vehicles were allegedly taken from Bub's Enterprises on 6290 State Road 374 on December 6, 2014 sometime before 5:45pm.  The suspect allegedly started each of the vehicles and drove them out of the garage separately.  He apparently lost control of one and then the other, ending up in a ditch.  The garage where the vehicles were stored was damaged as the trucks were apparently scraped against the building when they were being driven out.

The suspect, a ten-year old boy from Bellmont, was arrested.  At first he told New York State Police that he had been kidnapped by a man with a gun who stole and then crashed the trucks.

The boy, whose identity is not being released because of his age, is now facing the following charges:

  • Felony Grand Larceny in the fourth degree (two counts)
  • Felony Criminal Mischief in the second degree (one count)
He is scheduled to appear in family court to face formal accusations of wrongdoing.
It is not believed that the child suffered any serious injuries as a result of the accident.
