Assemblywoman Claudia Tenney is calling for Sheldon Silver to resign immediately for the sake of all New Yorkers.

Tenney says Silver is a disgrace to the people of New York and a blemish on all those who serve the public in this state.

She says it's time to put the Silver era behind us once and for all.

Silver was arrested this morning on federal corruption charges.

Meanwhile, Assemblyman Marc Butler is also calling for Sheldon Silver to resign.

Butler say the charges that led to Silver's arrest are disturbing, and it would be in the best interest of the people of the state that he resigns his position as Assembly Speaker.

The Herkimer County Republican says it's time for the Assembly to move forward and break the culture of corruption that has been rampant in the legislature

Butler say it must start with Silver's resignation.

Assemblyman Anthony Brindisi says like many of his colleagues, he's troubled to hear of the allegations against Silver.

Brindisi says the allegations are very serious and over the next several days, he'll seek to learn more credible details about the facts.
